About.
I help people who shape cities lead with more clarity, confidence and follow-through
They’re balancing community outcomes, politics, policy and technical detail while trying to hold onto the reason they got into this work in the first place.
My work is designed to support them. It helps cut through the noise, shift from reactive patterns into intentional progress, and build the mindset and capacity to lead with impact in complex systems.
This isn’t generic leadership coaching. It’s practical, deeply personal support for people whose work is shaping the future of our cities.
Helping the people who shape our cities lead with clarity, confidence and impact
You didn’t get into this work to sit in back-to-back meetings, respond to last-minute requests, or spin your wheels in constant reaction mode.
You got into it to create something meaningful. To make complex systems work better for more people. To leave a mark you’re proud of.
But when the urgent keeps crowding out the important, something gets lost. You stop having time to think. Your confidence starts to erode. And you begin to wonder if your work is actually making the impact you hoped for.
That’s not a failure of motivation or leadership. It’s a natural consequence of the way the system is set up. But it doesn’t have to stay that way.
This is where I come in
I work with individuals and organisations in the built environment to shift from reactive busyness into what I call Purposeful Momentum. That means creating the internal and external conditions to focus, lead and follow through on the work that matters most.
- Sometimes that means creating boundaries
- Sometimes it means making a tough decision
- Sometimes it’s about finding the words for a conversation you’ve been avoiding.
Whatever the path, we focus on what will actually shift things. In a way that fits how you think, lead and work best.
This isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing the right work, in the right way, with a clearer head and a deeper sense of purpose.
Why this work matters
The people with the greatest insight, care and capability are often the ones stuck in reactive cycles. Not because they lack leadership skills, but because the systems they work in are set up to prioritise the urgent over the important.
Without the time and space to step back, even the most thoughtful professionals can lose momentum. Projects stall. Teams spin. People burn out.
That’s why I do this work. Because the impact our cities need depends on people like you being able to lead at your best.
What is Purposeful Momentum?
Purposeful Momentum is a method, a mindset and a muscle you can build.
It’s the shift from: “I’ll get to that when things calm down” to: “I know exactly what matters right now, and I’ve got the clarity and energy to act on it.”
When you lead with Purposeful Momentum, you:
- Think more clearly, even when things are messy
- Decide with more confidence, based on your values and goals
- Take focused action, without burning out.
It’s not about finding balance. It’s about creating alignment. Between what matters to you, and how you show up to lead every day.
This approach underpins everything I offer:
Each is designed to unlock three core capabilities:
Clarity
Space to think clearly, even in complexity
Confidence
Trust in your own judgment and leadership instincts
Action
Forward movement on what matters most
About Me
I’m Liz Mackevicius – an urban planner by background, and now a coach and facilitator for people shaping cities, places and communities.
I spent nearly two decades working in local and state government, and consulting. I know what it’s like to care deeply about your work, to lead inside complex systems, and to still feel stuck in the spin of reactivity.
In 2021, I founded Sentier to support others facing that same tension through coaching, facilitation and leadership development. That work continues. But this next chapter brings more focus.
And if you’re wondering about all the photos of mountains, here’s why. I love being in, and moving through the mountains … Sometimes doing ultra trail runs, sometimes just being out there.
The trails have taught me a lot about what we’re all capable of: that momentum comes from small steps, not giant leaps. That you don’t need to know how you’ll get to the finish, you just need to reach the next aid station. That clarity can arrive after a long stretch of fog. And that sometimes, the view is only visible after the hardest climb.
Sentier still exists. It’s evolving into the home for my group programs and organisational work, including a new community for people in the built environment who want to lead differently.
